Our foundation projects
Before the establishment of Population Research UK, our funders – the Economic and Social Research Council and the Medical Research Council – commissioned three foundation projects to strengthen the UK’s longitudinal research landscape.
With PRUK, we can enhance the research environment to maximise the potential of cohort study data. In doing so, we empower researchers to drive meaningful change in society.
Data audit report
A comprehensive audit by CLOSER established a baseline understanding of activities within the UK’s longitudinal population studies (LPS). The report identifies gaps, highlights opportunities for improvement, and informs future data collection and support strategies.
Training opportunities
The UK Data Service has developed a tailored training programme to expand data management skills and promote the broader standardised sharing of LPS data. Designed in collaboration with LPS teams, this initiative ensures training meets real-world research needs while sharing best practices.
Coverage of longitudinal population studies
An interdisciplinary project has been commissioned to assess the coverage of UK LPS. This initiative delivered by the University of Southampton aims to create a consistent framework to help researchers determine which studies best suit their social, economic, and biomedical research questions.
